Westminster are not ‘sleepwalking’ anywhere as that would suggest they are oblivious to their deliberate actions. It is similar to the 70’s all over again where the profits from Oil and Gas was being used to pay off striking miners and destroy that industry sector, yet this time it is the slow suffocation of industries at Grangemouth and Mossmorran (insert other relevant sectors).
Deindustrialise and foster dependancy. Lets keep outsourcing to china, it’s worked fantastically for them lol
What’s the SNP policy on the North Sea oil?
Are they just hoping no one asks?
Nothing’s changed. Labours Scotland Office 25 years ago used to hand out “Scotland – The Call Centre Capital of the World” mouse mats.
It’s intentional to thwart independence
ExxonMobil have more than enough funds available to upgrade the plant to make it profitable within the current legislative regime.
They just don’t want to.
Because it’s a thing to try and roll back any and all environmental legislation throughout as many countries as possible, by applying political pressure on those countries. The goal being to then say “Look ! Environmental legislation doesn’t work ! Look at all these countries abandoning it !”, such that other countries (such as the USA, Exxon’s home turf as it were) don’t even attempt any similar legislation.
Part of the overall neoliberalist economic philosophy, of dismantling state regulations, of weakening the ability of democratic countries to resist corporate power, regardless of the environmental or social costs resulting from such actions.
Are they sleep walking into it or is it intentional? They don’t seem to have issues stepping in to save industries in England.
Happened decades ago.
They think taking away all lucrative contracts from Scotland will make independence less appealing, but it’s doing the opposite.
Just another axe blow to Scotland that we’re meant to endure, with unemployment sky rocketing and members of parliament actively looking to make life worse for those on benefits.
It’s as if they want us to be independent, we’ll soon be followed by Wales and the rest of Ireland and that’ll be that. Farage getting in power will speed this process up significantly, so we’ll soon see what the future is going to look like for the UK and from all accounts things aren’t looking great.
Typical bluster from the biggest charlatan in British politics. Business and enterprise in Scotland are the responsibility of the SNP Government. You can’t just howl and point fingers every time another dated loss-making endeavour goes down.
That happened 40 years ago, thanks thatcher
Its not sleepwalking. It has been undertaken on purpose.

Why doesn’t the SNP step in?
