    Donald Trump approves of a secret deal being proposed by US and Russian officials that would force [Ukraine](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/ukraine) to give up some of its arms and lease key territories to [Russia](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/russia), it has been reported.

    The deal would require [Kyiv](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/kyiv) to cede control of the eastern Donbas region while legally retaining ownership of it, in exchange for an undisclosed rental fee from [Moscow](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/moscow), officials familiar with the deal told the *Telegraph.*

    It is one of a number of concessions reportedly demanded from [Ukraine](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/ukraine), including that it give up long-range missiles and slash its military personnel by half.

    A source told NBC News that Trump himself had approved the 28-point plan this week, citing a US senior government official.

    Meanwhile, Ukrainian military officials say their efforts to hold on to the strategic city of [Pokrovsk ](https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/pokrovsk)are being complicated by Russian soldiers disguising themselves as civilians.

    # Kremlin says Ukraine must eliminate root causes of conflict for peace

    The Kremlin said on Thursday that any peace plan for Ukraine would have to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and that though there were contacts with the United States there were currently no negotiations with Washington on such a plan.

    It is a line which has been repeatedly used by Moscow, which has characterised its invasion of Ukraine as an attempt to address neo-Nazism in the country, which it says needs to go through a process of “denazification”.

    Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment if Russian president Vladimir Putin had been briefed on the details of the reported Ukraine peace plan.

    **TL;DR**

    Russia is looking at possibly “renting” Eastern Ukraine, with the territories being Russian-controlled but technically still Ukrainian. I don’t think it’s clear what would happen if Russia defaulted on its payments or why Ukraine would go with it (who’d want to rent half their country to a terror state??) but Trump believes it could bring about peace and finally get him that Nobel he desperately wants and Vladolf would get his Russianized Ukraine without European peacekeepers.

Will there be a US base with 5000 marines in Zaporizhzhia? Then it’s a good deal. A vague promise by Trump to work towards maintaining the peace? They are better off fighting.

With how much aud we have already cut in sure Europe, France especially would love to sell more them.   25. Trump keeps fantasizing he can just wave a wand and unilaterally think Ukraine and the EU will go along with his plans.

    Trump has openly mused on different occasions that he thinks he can get both the Noble Peace Prize and get to heaven if he gets a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.

    Asking Russia to rent Donbass, considering Russia is broke and it’s economy in ashes, Russia will never be able to afford to pay the hundreds of billions of dollars it should be paying Ukraine for war reparations.

    Logic: Russia can afford to pay Ukraine for renting Donbas by exploiting the Natural Resources in the Donbas region.

    Edit: No doubt by giving Ukraine a token amount of the profit… and immediatly claim it will be years before they see the first payment, followed by years of partial payments, followed by no payments whatsoever, since by then, Russia will have effectively annexed Donbas in a way, that the entire population will have been forced to become Russian.
