  2. 6th richest on the planet, and expected to grow to the 5th richest by the next decade. If that trend holds the 4th richest by 2040 behind the US, China, and India all countries multiples our size with huge amounts of natural resources at their disposal.

  3. The state of some of the articles on today’s media -not least Peter Hitchens’ Denethor-like ravings – would suggest things aren’t that bad; if they were they wouldn’t need to put so much effort in to it.

  5. Honestly, I think a lot of doomer Brits could just do with spending some time outside of the UK. Yes, things feel pretty dismal right now, but that isn’t a problem specific to our country… Pretty much every country on the planet is fucked in some way right now, and the overwhelming majority of them are more fucked than we are.

  8. Ireland is one of the richest, but that is skewed because it is a tax haven for corps. Doesnt mean that everything is gold in Ireland though. Same for UK.

  14. I spoke to a Czech client who recently came back from London after watching football at Fulham and Chelsea.

    He went to the centre and didn’t feel safe; unsavoury characters offering him drugs and getting angry when he refused. He said that it had changed for the worse since his last visit five-six years ago.
