A song co-written by Maltese singer-songwriter Gilbert Gauci has been selected for the semi-finals of Latvia’s Eurovision national selection Supernova.
Announcing the news in a Facebook post, Gauci said this was the first time that he is entering the Eurovision scene as a co-writer and was “over the moon”.
The track, titled “Oh My My”, will be performed by Latvian artist Agnese Stengrevics and is planned for release in early December ahead of the competition shows early next year.
This marks the latest achievement in a series of international opportunities for Gauci. Over the past two years, his music has been used several times on CBS’s long-running television series The Young and the Restless. He has also featured on Lidl Finland’s annual summer song for the supermarket’s national campaign.
‘Oh My My’ was written during a writing camp that coincidentally took place over the Eurovision weekend last May. Gauci co-wrote the song with producer Jacob and with Agnese.
He said that after a full day of writing, they ended the evening watching the Eurovision together “something that now feels quite special, considering the song created that same day is about to compete in Latvia’s national selection”.
Gauci added he grew up watching Malta’s national final and the Eurovision show every year, so being involved in the contest as a writer is a “personal win” for him.
