Why were they claiming benefits?
If reform or tories did this, everyone would call them racist or something.
Lefties in shambles.
Why has this taken so long?
So non-citizens won’t have to pay taxes then, since they’re not getting a right to all the things they go towards?
No wonder people want to come to Britain. They can live a life of take-take-take. It’s a joke the way our politicians and public service have set this scam up.
Looking at the stats the main claims seem to be universal credit and child benefit.
Now given that just shy of 40% of the people on UC in general are people in work so its likely a similar figure for non citizens, so this isn’t spongers or lazy people for a good chunk. I’m sure the hospitality, cleaning and other low paying jobs won’t collapse if this happens and those people leave because they can’t afford to live.
It really is anyone or anything but target the rich and landlords at this point.
Oh and for those wondering 24m on some form of benefits, this would account for about less than 2m of those claims with the largest drain on the country been Pensioners (as it has been for years).
Oh and don’t forget the average total wealth for pensioners in the UK is £750kish but they really need that cold qeather payment to go to all of them.
Yup, not every immigrant is worth it. Not every one is a gain for the economy; most infact are a net drain on the treasury!
“british citizen” is still a far to loose term for welfare
Asylum is always mixed up in benefits. Asylum is a temporary safe haven if you need to flee from war or something drastic – it should ALWAYS be the case and intent that you will return home. It’s completely different to immigration where we need to be highly selective and target immigrants that have skills we don’t have and who won’t claim benefits – if they need benefits (in work benefits) then they are low skilled and we have enough of them here in our own workers.
I think many of you don’t realize that some EU citizens can’t “just go home”. Some are married to British citizens and even have children who were born here. So what happens when these people fall on hard times due to illness/disability for example? And suddenly the couple/family has only one income they cant survive on? British citizens now need a visa to move abroad. When EU citizens can’t claim benefits their spouses/family (who might be British )will suffer too.
More immigrants in the last 20years than the preceding 2000, its not sustainable
Can we pay taxes only as British citizens? I pay shitloads of tax as a high earner. Seems fair that I don’t access benefits (I don’t) and don’t pay taxes either so that Joanna down the street who was born and raised here but is currently out of work has no social net whatsoever
🙄🙄🙄
Obviously it won’t be applied retrospectively. Can’t be doing that!
I’m completely ignorant here and have little understanding of the situation. But, you can’t just turn up and get benefits right? But if you are a legally working person paying NI then, surely benefits are part of the package? Tell me why this is wrong r/outoftheloop
Good, hopefully the people who actually need them will get them now.
The left are in shambles 😂 Reforming forcing change upon everything without even being in power.
Maybe wages should actually livable!?
The government should tax the rich appropriately. Platforms shouldn’t be given to nazi sympathetic politicians who keep the plebs fighting among themselves.
Good. About time.
Bloody hell would love to know about the Alevel standard. I had to visit the job centre around 6 months ago and the first I was asked was whether I needed a translator. I just thought there is a whole industry that is supporting these people. Translators should not be available as if the person gets a job how are they supposed to communicate
If I went and moved to Dubai for work, then lost my job would I get benefits? Not a snowballs chance in h**l. If you move to a new country to work, it’s risky, you save an emergency fund. Why do some people in the UK think it’s ok for immigrants to claim benefits? They are not citizens. I wouldn’t go to another country and claim, it’s embarrassing.
I know of a family of 5 that got into the uk off the back of a lorry 2 years ago. Granted asyluum and they are now about to get a council house and the parents are both on benefits. Both feel jobs like cleaning are beneath them so choosing to stay on benefits. We are all footing the bill lol
why tf could non citizens claim anything at all?
Such an obvious policy choice that should have been in place decades ago. Then we can look at handouts going to the permanently unemployed by choice Brits.
Common sense. Most countries would tell me to fuck off if I moved there and asked for handouts!
Does this mean state pensions, going to British people who are living abroad, will completely stop?
Those folk that live off their income from renting out their home here, topped up by their state pension will be losing the state pension part?
I don’t click these links, so happy to hear if I’m wrong, from those that do.
I’m sort of fed up of the UK, any chance I can walk into Monaco and get given an apartment by the sea front and some benefits to look after me? If not why not?
people are going to die over this but vultures love a good corpse, dont they?
net result, people will be granted citizenship a lot more quickly
pure coincidence being they can then vote
I am still more annoyed that immigrant without citizenship can vote in the general elections.
People from third world countries with backwards cultures can have a say on how to lead the country, while we do everything we can to alienate our european cousins…
As of June 2025, there were 7.9 million people receiving Universal Credit.
– 83.6% were British or Irish nationals / those with right of abode.
– 9.7% were people under the EU Settlement Scheme.
– 5.8% were refugees or non-EU nationals with limited or indefinite leave to remain.
– Among UC claimants who were out of work, 12% were foreign nationals (non-British / non-Irish).
• These figures are for Universal Credit only — they don’t cover all UK benefits (e.g., disability benefits, housing benefit, pension credit, etc.).
• “Foreign nationals” is a broad category: it includes EU citizens with Settlement Scheme status, refugees, non-EU on indefinite leave to remain, etc. Some of these have long-term settled status.
• The data comes from the Labour Force Survey / DWP release — survey-based data has some sampling and reporting limitations.
So mostly British citizens sits on benefits. If people think that this will solve much of UK issues, they need a reality check.
Im not a labour supporter, but im beginning to like this lady.
There are people who previously worked in the UK for a short time able to claim benefits even though they are now living abroad. Benefits should only ever be paid to people living in the UK so the money goes back into the economy.
People who come to the UK to work and illegal migrants and students should not be able to bring their family over. Those who get citizenship should not be able to bring their parents, cousins and extended family over.
illegal immigrants should be deported as they have not followed official routes. They should not get any special treatment nor be allowed to make applications to stay. A recent report showed a lot of these immigrants are not even fluent or educated in their own language, they will never be an asset to our economy and only ever a drain.
Any council houses should go to British people first, with ex service people and other vulnerable people being first on the list.
Benefit cheats should be publicly flogged.
They need to do a snap like usa, make everyone re apply
I do not understand why this was not always the case.
I suppose that whilst we were in the EU, we had some EU people here, and some UK people went over there, and each party probably paid some of those people benefits. If I’m correct (I have no idea if I am) then I suppose it makes sense to analyse whether its cheaper to pay the remaining EU people or to pay the UK people when they move back after the EU does the same move in retaliation.
Uk benefits only benefitting UK citizens should’ve been the basics, god knows how much money has been claimed by non-citizens and bank transferred out of the country to recipients family members back in their less economically stable home countries! (my city has an entire section of it housed entirely by immigrants that do exactly this.)
This needs to happen in Canada as well
