House Republicans pushed through legislation Thursday that aims to boost domestic liquefied natural gas production and increase exports.
Lawmakers including some Democrats voted 217-188 to pass the bill (H.R. 1949) from Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) and dozens of Republicans aimed at streamlining the permitting process for facilities exporting LNG, many of which are on the US Gulf Coast. It would give the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission exclusive authority to approve applications, eliminating the requirement for the Energy Department to weigh in.
