National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik urged Vietnam to step up support for Korean companies and discussed ways to deepen economic ties in a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, his office said Friday.

During his talks with Tran Thanh Man, the chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, the previous day, Woo underscored the importance of creating “success stories” of Korean companies in Vietnam to further advance their bilateral ties.

Woo highlighted the major areas of bilateral cooperation, including defense, nuclear power, high-speed rail, development of new cities and other infrastructure projects, as well as exchanges in the science and technology sectors.

He expressed hope for concrete progress between the two countries, citing Korea’s technology, extensive experience and capabilities in meeting the timeline and budget requirements. Woo also handed over a document containing the main challenges of Korean companies.

In response, Man said Vietnam will work to swiftly address their concerns and welcomed Seoul’s interest in participating in large-scale infrastructure projects in the country.

Following the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding between the two parliaments, which calls for exchanging their views on bilateral and international issues, maintaining regular high-level mutual visits and enhancing cooperation in parliamentary delegations and international conferences.
