“For 2026, FPL’s typical 1,000-kWh residential customer bill in most of Florida will increase by $2.50 a month, or about 2%, from the current $134.14 to $136.64. In Northwest Florida, the typical residential customer bill will remain relatively flat, going from the current $143.60 to $141.36 in 2026.”
I know electricity costs must be evaluated relative to income levels, but FL benefits from rates below national average.
Also FPL is one of the largest power companies in the US (and world), so that $7B is spread out pretty widely (6m customers) via cost of service regulation.
TBH I think this article is basically a non-issue…
Why are regulators across the country so undemocratic these days? Short term incentives? – I am a regulator sitting in my cushy board room and I am gonna curry as much favor with industry before my term is up and get a fat job in the industry. People be damned.
Florida is not a democracy.
I’m pretty sure resident oppose any cost increases to energy.
Cheer up! Donald Trump promised “Under my administration, we will be slashing energy and electricity prices by half within 12 months, at a maximum 18 months.”

It’s time to take them down.
