American (car) in Norwegian winter

  1. Not to mention the models where the windows goes a down when opening a door. I was wondering why a lady was pouring hot water on her windows until I remembered that function.

  2. Looks like someone forgot to prep the doors for winter to me.

Silicone spray now and then and this was ok at least on our previous one. The real issue was how bad the car was at moving forward (or backward for that matter) when the temp got close to -30.

  3. I use the defrost function on mine 10-15 minutes before driving, which solves this problem. It is worth noting that this is by no means a Tesla specific problem, though.

  4. I owned a Model 3 for a few years and this really isn’t as common as that thread would make you believe. It happened maybe once or twice, and all it took to fix it was to push a little harder.

Not defending the design choice of course, I prefer actual handles. But this isn’t that big of a deal.

  5. Genuinely not had this problem in the 4 years of owning a model 3. The door handles does freeze a bit, but you can generally push it out with a bit of force no issues.

I will say though, where you live can drastically change your experience of owning a car in winter. My brother used to live next to a river, with extremely high humidity. The doors on his car (a BMW) would be practically welded shut in the morning. In these areas, a garage is a necessity.

  6. That’s why defrost is not optional but mandatory in some regions…

  7. for some reason people are still against Tesla, must be a political thing.

  8. Never had issues with my model 3 in the arctic circle up to -25C 🤓 just preheat + press the front of the handle to break the ice (is in the manual)

BTW: previously I had to wait 10 mins inside the car after scrapping and brushing the ice for 10 other minutes (with ICE car)

  9. Just bs. Owned a 2021 model 3 for 4 years in the Norwegian winter and this happens rarely. Also own other cars and this happens as often as any other car. Handles and door seals sometimes froze. Deal with it.

  10. Just one of those people who got affected by the covid lockdown and have politics revolve around their entire life now…

as other comments have said, all doors freeze here and can be prevented with a defrost function.

    touch ~~grass~~ snow*?

  11. This is gonna be my first winter with a tesla. I usually heat up the car in the morning, but whats the difference between turning on climate and using the «defrost» feature?

Which one should I use in the cold ass norwegian mornings?

  12. Glad I have a car with the type of door handle you just pull

  13. Of course it would be an American in Norway with a Tesla. Probably because they couldn’t get a Ram 2500 diesel with all emissions controls devices removed.

More or less, if after all of these years of Teslas still being built like shit and Musk’s not 2 years of bad politics, but more than a decade or even two, you still buy one, then you’re the asshole. Just because Musk has temporarily a lower profile doesn’t mean he’s not still collecting telemetry data and recording the conversations of potentially important people inside his cars and sending them to whomever, including russia.
