Just witnessed my first ever Northern Lights in Norway, and honestly… I’m still processing it.
I took these shots with my iPhone, handheld, no tripod, so go easy on me 😂
But I’d love to hear:
- Do locals ever get used to it or does it stay magical every time?
- Any tips I’m going to Finland for another chase

Kind of both? We get used to it, but it still feels magical in my opinion. The colors change and feels different, the shapes are never the same. I’ve seen aurora that looks like big waves, I’ve seen aurora that looks like something big with wings, and last time it was like an explosion right above the house. Looking straight up, I saw the center and colors spreading.
There are apps that have aurora maps, showing where it might show and if it is low or high chance of aurora. Using one or multiple of those can help you if you’re looking for them!
