From November 26 to December 2, in Romania, the first round of Euro-2026 qualifying for the U17 girls will take place in Group A6 of League A. The Ukrainian team will face the hosts of the tournament, as well as Switzerland and Austria.

According to the Ukrainian Association of Football’s press service, the head coach of the girls’ youth national team Lyudmyla Lemeshko, in an interview on the official UAФ site, spoke about the preparations for the tournament, Ukrinform reports.

“To Romania we head on November 24 by train. Before departure we held a short-term training phase in Kyiv. There were problems with organizing a friendly match, but we still played with the juniors of “Metalist 1925” – 3:3. The goals were scored by Karina Lespukh (twice) and Sofia Kozishkurt. This sparring was important also for determining the 20 players who will take part in the Euro qualifiers.

“We decided not to take risks and invited only those performers whose capabilities we knew well. In my view, all the strongest players of this age category came to Kyiv. By the way, most of them previously played for our girls’ national team WU15.

I consider the Swiss to be the main contenders for the victory. They operate compactly, are aggressive in the transitional phase, and actively use the flanks. By the way, in the Kyiv sparring we worked out those tactical schemes that we will take on board in the opening match. Perhaps we will play with two holding midfielders, but most likely we will act from defense,” said Lyudmyla Lemeshko.
