DEARBORN, Mich. (WLUC) – The official start to AAA’s Thanksgiving holiday travel period is Tuesday, November 25. With 2.3 million Michiganders expected to get to their destination by car, the price for gas rose 9 cents from a week ago.
On Monday morning, the travel agency reported that drivers are now paying an average of $3.11 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. Compared to this time in 2024, that price is 9 cents higher.
Michigan sits three cents higher than the national average, which is now $3.07 per gallon.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 9.02 million b/d to 8.52 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 205.1 million barrels to 207.4 million barrels. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.3 million barrels per day.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI fell $1.30 to settle at $59.44 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 3.4 million barrels from the previous week. At 424.2 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 5% below the five-year average for this time of year.
In Upper Michigan, the lowest average is in Marquette County at $2.81. The highest average is in Mackinac County at $3.27.
