HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Public complaints over a technology fee led the Von Braun Center to pause collections less than a week after it was implemented.
Those fees were paused November 15, five days after the were implemented.
Some people who attended a Huntsville Havoc hockey game noticed the fee and raised questions and concerns.
VBC Leaders paused collections immediately to evaluate the fee, which was implemented to help offset the costs of technology investments throughout the facility.
“Our priority is always the guest experience. The technology fee was introduced to help offset the rising costs of the technology upgrades that support a smoother, safer, and more enjoyable visit to the VBC,” said Samantha Nielsen, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the Von Braun Center. “When we began hearing questions and concerns from attendees, we paused the fee immediately so we could fully review the feedback. Our leadership team is continuing to evaluate the best way to support these ongoing improvements, and we want to be thoughtful, transparent, and responsive as we determine the best path forward.”
There is currently no timeline on when a final decision will be made regarding the technology fee or other potential approaches.
A total of $5,847 was collected across parking and concessions/bars during the five days the technology fee was in effect.
