Pakistan: Three killed in suicide blast at Peshawar headquarters • FRANCE 24 English

This security camera footage captured the moment of the explosion when the first of three attackers detonated his bomb at the main gate of the provincial headquarters of the Peshawa Federal Constabularary. Witnesses say the blast was disorientating. I was on my way to work and was making a U-turn when there was this huge blast. After the explosion, I wasn’t immediately aware of what had happened. According to a police statement, two other attackers were shot and killed by officers before they could enter the building. Afterwards, two other attackers attempted to enter the premises. The suicide blast killed three security personnel, but the two attackers who tried to enter were neutralized. Thanks to the alertness and the timely action of the federal constabularary personnel, major damage was avoided. Security forces quickly cleared the scene. So far, no group has claimed the attack, but the Pakistani Taliban have been blamed for recent similar incidents. Two weeks ago, a suicide bomber targeted a court in the capital, Islamabad, killing 12 people after detonating next to a police car. The attacks have caused mounting tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with authorities in Islamabad accusing their neighbors in Kabul of allowing the Pakistani Taliban to operate freely within their borders.

  14. The explosion that happened in Pakistan is something we used to see in Kabul once a week, sometimes even daily, just a few years ago. Unfortunately, Pakistan supported the Taliban, and there were daily explosions. Eventually, the Taliban came, toppled the official Afghan government, and took the people hostage, essentially turning the nation into a giant prison. Now, they’re taking those bombs that were brought into Afghanistan and learned how to make from the ISI, and they’re now using them in Pakistan. Even though it’s distressing to see innocent people suffer, one could argue that the Pakistani government somewhat deserves these consequences.
