Get ready for a night of timeless funk as the trailblazing band WAR takes the stage at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa on Saturday, Dec. 6. Known for their signature fusion of funk, rock, Latin, and jazz, WAR has carved out a lasting place in music history.
Originally performing under the name Nightshift, the band caught the attention of Animals frontman Eric Burdon and producer Jerry Goldstein in the late ’60s. Impressed by their socially conscious lyrics and dynamic live energy, the duo helped relaunch the group as WAR—an intentional nod to the band’s message of unity, struggle, and peace.
WAR first hit the spotlight with 1970’s “Eric Burdon Declares War,” featuring the breakout hit “Spill the Wine.” That success jumpstarted a global tour and led to an- other album with Burdon before the band struck out on its own.
The 1971 release “All Day Music” earned two gold records, thanks to the enduring hits “Slippin’ Into Darkness” and the title track. Just two years later, WAR released “The World Is a Ghetto,” which became Billboard’s Album of the Year in 1973.
With more than 60 singles, nearly 30 albums, and a string of gold and platinum records, WAR remains one of the most influential crossover acts of its era. The group has earned three Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations since 2009.
“WAR’s music helped define a generation,” said Amy Hunstock, Morongo’s Vice President of Marketing. “Their unique blend of rhythm, message, and soul is still just as powerful today. We’re honored to have them perform at Morongo.”
