The family was relieved he was not detained, but his case is not over, as the judge moved to hold a second hearing in the spring.

SAN DIEGO — The owner of Just Peachy Market in Encinitas, Norberto Ambrosio Aguilar, appeared in court Tuesday morning, as he faces possible deportation to Mexico.

The family was relieved he was not detained, but his case is not over, as the judge moved to hold a second hearing in the spring.

Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Ambrosio Aguilar told CBS 8 he has owned the business for about 7 years. He stayed in San Diego County on a work permit, working in produce.

Ambrosio Aguilar told CBS 8 he typically renews his permit every year. However, this year, under the Trump Administration, his immigration case was reopened, and he faces possible deportation.

This has led to outrage in his North County community. A rally of supporters was held Tuesday morning ahead of his hearing.

“I’ve been to Just Peachy, his market, a number of times. But I don’t know him. But, in our community, everybody’s life connects to everybody else’s lives. And I think we just see that so much,” Amanda Manger, who attended the rally, said.

Ultimately, Ambrosio Aguilar is hoping the judge will grant him a pathway to a green card.

“It was a relief. You know… I have a few more months until the new hearing. We’ll just wait until then… I appreciate everyone who [made] it down here… It means a lot. Thank you very much,” Ambrosio Aguilar said.

The family said the next hearing will be held in May.
