[UK] Jury trials set to be scrapped except for most serious crimes

1. What keeps getting missed from this is that this is an economic not a political choice.

   There is a huge backlog of cases. The political choice is to work through them and not abandon them and do so as quickly as possible.

   The economic choice is that no one should suffer because of this. And so instead of cutting into the budget elsewhere to pay for more courts, judges and clarks tbe choice has been made to scrap juries for cost purposes.

   In a week when the government decided to roll back buying BMWs and Mercedes for the unemployed it feels very fitting we’re saving money by scrapping trial by jury.
