David Letterman is having none of Donald Trump‘s attacks on Seth Meyers amid the president’s calls to fire the Late Night host.

Letterman came to Meyers’ defense in a new episode of The Barbara Gaines Show (Gaines is a former executive producer of The Late Show with David Letterman). Trump became infuriated after a Late Night segment in which Meyers took on the president, saying “If anyone dares to say anything less than glowing, Trump loses his s**t.”

Well, that’s exactly what Trump did, writing on Truth Social, “NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”

Letterman went on to praise Meyers. “And I thought, this is just delightful. How do you think that’s going to go? So anyway, I’ve never been more proud of Seth Meyers,” he said. “That’s our old show, as a matter of fact. Yeah, we used to do that show, and he does a magical job.”

Letterman then alluded to Trump’s response to a reporter’s question last week in the Oval Office, about the 2018 killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s White House visit, saying “But just remember Seth, things happen. Exactly. You know what I’m saying?”

Later in the episode, calling Trump “our dictator” and “a wonder of idiocy,” Letterman said of the president, “It’s like 18 times the worst behavior one has witnessed ever anywhere. Think of the worst thing that you’ve ever seen humans accomplish. This is so much worse.”
