Romania celebrated its National Day with a vibrant and culturally rich reception on 26 November in New Delhi, honouring the Great Union of 1918—the historic milestone that shaped modern Romania.
This year’s festivities carried added significance as Romania and India marked 77 years of diplomatic relations, a partnership strengthened by expanding cultural, academic, and economic cooperation. The reception was hosted by Sena Latif, Ambassador of Romania to India, whose dynamic leadership has infused fresh energy into Romania–India relations, particularly through cultural diplomacy and creative exchange. Ambassador Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs, attended the event, underscoring India’s enduring commitment to the bilateral partnership.
The evening began with a powerful rendition of the Romanian National Anthem by internationally acclaimed artist Iulia Vântur, celebrated for her work in Bollywood and global cultural initiatives such as WE ARE THE NEW WORLD @ THE VATICAN. The Indian National Anthem was performed by young prodigy Srijan Arora, whose fusion of classical artistry and modern interpretation captivated the audience. A highlight of the celebration was a mesmerizing performance by the Transilvania Folkloric Ensemble of Baia Mare, whose expressive choreography showcased the richness of Romania’s traditional dance heritage. Adding a distinctive artistic layer, an architectural exhibition curated by renowned Indian architect Rajendra Kumar explored the creative and cultural parallels shared by Romania and India, symbolizing a bridge between the two nations.
The ceremony was elegantly conducted by Dr. Sanjaanaa Jon, internationally recognized filmmaker, philanthropist, and cultural integrator, whose work continues to champion cross-cultural engagement, sustainability, and humanitarian collaboration. The reception drew senior dignitaries, diplomats, business leaders, cultural personalities, and members of the Romanian community. Guests enjoyed an array of authentic Romanian cuisine and an evening celebrating friendship, cultural harmony, and global cooperation.
Romania’s National Day celebration this year not only showcased the nation’s rich heritage but also reflected the growing warmth and depth of Romania–India ties—built on shared values, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a more interconnected world.
