  1. Cant go home and use the nhs though, despite paying for decades
Would need to keep a UK bolthole / address i presume?

  2. Aside from the fact that this isn’t a meme, who is arguing this exactly?

  3. You wouldn’t be allowed to rock up to half {or any} of these countries with nothing and sign straight on for free accommodation and money.

I’ve lived in Canada. You don’t even get healthcare unless you show proof of employment.

But I’m sure you know this but pressed submit on this shit post anyway.

  4. OK, let’s allow benefits for foreign residents from those nations then.

  5. Brits, living abroad, cannot access the *British benefit system*.

    or at least shouldn’t.

foreign countries have their own welfare policies in how they handle foreigners, however generally countries do not offer welfare and benefits to foreign workers unless they want to incentivise long term settlement and migration.

which by the way whenever asked since 1970s (at least) the British people do not want to incentivise.

  6. Total BS post. Most Brits would be lucky to get any sort of work visa for Canada/Australia, especially if they were going there for benefits

  7. OP is skirting over the fact that a quick Google shows you need to meet certain criteria to gain access to those benefits as a non citizen, many of which are things like employment etc.

For sure some people are arguing against immigrants because they’re racist assholes, but most are just saying that unfettered access to benefits whilst not having a legal status isnt sustainable and there needs to be a system that encourages paying into society. We have established a moral obligation to help those from countries in turmoil, but to bankrup ourselves to do it and not check to see if those entering are legitimately in need is just plain stupid.

Also, OP doesn’t seem to be able to comprehend the difference between illegal immigrants and permanent residents.

    Also, not a meme.

  8. I’ve never heard this argument before glad you cleared that up incase I do. Anyway I was wondering why does that make paying foreign residents benefits a good thing?

  9. Well, it’s not. Frenchmen would say si c’est gratuit c’est toi le produit. If it’s free, you’re the product

  10. Tell me you’d be happy if all of North Korea came to the UK for asylum on the doll. How practical is that, how can it make any sense that we keep paying for this

  11. New arrivals should not be getting benefits. New arrivals should be met with instant departure. We are full britain want no more migrants legal or illegal.

  12. Also, it incentivises people to get citizenship, and to not be unemployed. This is one of the few things where I would say Labour are correct

  13. I’m a Brit living abroad and not only do I have zero access to local benefits I also have to pay extra for some things (state education, housing stamp duty, etc) and we are at the back of the queue when trying to access things like schools. Oh, and of course no buying of social housing and only allowed to buy condos, not even houses.

The world is not the EU and the others listed here.

  14. Genuine question- what benefits do the get from Britain in Canada? The state pension, for example, is frozen.

  15. Why do we allow British citizens living outside the country to receive benefits? Clearly they don’t need financial assistance.

+Doesn’t that mean it’s going to all people of foreign countrys that come here, get a British citizen checkbox, and fuck off afterwards?

What’s the positive to us of sending money to people outside the country?

  16. People on Skilled workers visa, ie those that come to UK to work for an organisation willing to sponsor them DO NOT have access to benefits such as public funds, and should pay for the NHS when applying for a visa.

  17. Can British people get benefits in Afghanistan? In Pakistan? In Bangladesh? In Palestine? Keep benefits for people whose countries do the same for you, I would say.

  18. Who gives a shit about Brits abroad.

    Cut all benefits asap

  19. Ok so what about India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Middle East, africa, Caribbean…..

  20. I don’t care much about fuelling either side of a debate, we know the ruling class are the problem and no one wants to be the necessary evil that removes them by force

But, in the spirit of playing devil’s advocate, Ireland is an EU member (maybe they meant Northern Ireland but that’s part of the UK) and all those countries listed are majority white European controlled… maybe that’s why they have such support for people in need

  21. If you emigrate to a country you should be a net benefit to that country otherwise you’d be a burden, that goes for brits moving elsewhere and people coming to the UK

  22. Because they paid for them, or are still paying….

  23. Most people who are arguing with this are people from non EU countries. (Mostly Asia)
Is this sub that you can see all of this r/skilledworkervisauk

  24. Wait, British permanent residence (by that I take to mean ILR holders) get benefits abroad? What?

  25. Those countries are free to stop benefits on our ex-pats. That’s up to them. I doubt our expats arrived with 10 kids and 3 wives.

  26. As a Brit not living in the UK and not paying into the system, why should I have access to a benefit system over a person living in the UK paying into the system?

  27. What on earth is the point in this. Like a ‘gottcha” moment related to something no one cares about.

  28. So many people say stuff without ever bothering to Google it first. It’s mind blowing. Just check before looking like an idiot!
