The Swedish team led by Anna Hasselborg claimed a record-extending 22nd European Curling Championships crown with a 7-5 win over Scotland in the women’s final in Lohja, Finland, on Saturday (29 November).
The team, made up of Hasselborg, Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer, and Sofia Mabergs won Sweden’s first continental title since 2019.
The Beijing 2022 bronze medallists drew first blood in the third end with one point before Scotland immediately struck back in the next.
The tit-for-tat battle continued in the fifth and sixth ends with Sweden scoring two before the Scots returned the favour to level the scores again.
Hasselborg got Sweden back in the lead in the seventh when she took out the shot stone for a double to give them a two-point advantage.
Scotland pulled one back in the eighth, but Sweden added another two to secure the victory.
On Friday, Switzerland claimed an impressive 8-4 win over Norway to bag the bronze medal.
