AIB All-Ireland Club Junior Camogie Championship semi-finals
Brídíní Óga (Antrim) 3-9 Patrickswell (Limerick) 2-3
St Dominic’s (Roscommon) 2-15 St Peter’s, Dunboyne (Meath) 1-3
ANTRIM champions Brídíní Óga, Glenravel moved from a flat enough performance in last weekend’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Fullen Gaels to hit top form in Abbottstown on Saturday and blow Patrickswell out of the water.
The Limerick champions had looked impressive in collecting the Munster title last weekend, but they weren’t allowed to settle by the fired-up Ulster champions, despite opening the scoring after just 45 seconds with a point from Rachel O’Grady.
It took the Glenravel girls a little time to get going and it was 0-1 each when Molly Woulahan was taken down for a penalty in the ninth minute. Team captain Torie Edgar blasted it to the net and that score seemed to ignite a drive in her team-mates.
Edgar added four frees, including three 45s, with Kirsty Laverty slotting a point and after 20 minutes’ play they were 1-6 to 0-1 ahead.
There were also goal chances along the way with Sarah Gillane making an excellent save from Woulahan.
But, after 23 minutes, Gillane’s short poc-out was fumbled and Edgar’s mishit shot forced the goalie off her line where she became entangled with Woulahan. The Glenravel forward picked up the sliotar and buried it in the empty net.
A free from Edgar and a point from the right wing for Shauna McDonnell left the Ulster champions with a healthy interval lead of 2-8 to 0-1.
They failed to score against the breeze during the third quarter, but, apart from a 39th-minute goal from Leah O’Carroll, Patrickswell were making little headway against a solid Glenravel defence.
Edgar then pinched the scores that decided the game, a point in the 47th minute and immediately after finished a fine inter-change of passes with Aimee Traynor and Woulahan with her team’s third goal.
Orla Donnelly brought off a couple of fine saves in the last 10 minutes, but was beaten by Sarah Fitzgerald as the game entered added time. By then the Antrim side were safely through to a second final in four seasons.
In a fortnights’ time they will meet St Dominic’s from Roscommon who were also transformed from the team that beat Killimor 0-6 to 0-5 last week.
Áine O’Meara was the match-winner with two goals and four points as they overwhelmed St Peter’s, Dunboyne by 2-15 to 1-3 in Banagher, even though they led by just 0-4 to 1-0 at the break.
However, wind-assisted for the second half, they moved through the gears and were very comfortable winners.
