Europe ramps up military service amid growing Russian threat • FRANCE 24 English
This station in Warsaw, heavily armed troops are keeping guard. They are among some 10,000 soldiers deployed to monitor the railway line that connects with Ukraine after the recent attack which authorities have blamed on Russia. Poland wants to show it is prepared for any future threats. Now is the time to demonstrate our decisiveness and show that we are prepared for any eventuality. Conscription was suspended in 2009 in Poland, but recently the government launched a new voluntary military program and plans to be able to train over 100,000 people per year by 2027. And it is just one of the European countries trying to beef up its forces. Last month, the Croatian government voted to reinstate compulsory military service for adult men from 2026 onwards, making it the fourth country to do so in the last decade, following Sweden, Lithuania, and Latvia. They joined the six countries that have retained conscription throughout, including Denmark, which recently updated its policy to include women as well in a lottery style system that will come into effect next year. But for the majority of the EU, 17 out of 27 states, there is still no mandatory military service. The block’s defense spending is expected to reach around 392 billion euros this year, and with more weapons comes the need for more troops to wield them. Countries such as Belgium and Germany are moving towards voluntary programs similar to Poland to funnel more people into the military. But so far each has stopped short of conscription.

In my view, President Trump’s approach may offer a more effective path toward peace. I feel that the EU and the EU3 are not moving in the right direction, partly due to what seems like a sense of competition or hesitation. Some traditional European powers appear stagnant, and their actions often look like obstruction or sabotage, which I find very concerning
If EU wants real peace they should be ready for war with evils which is having bad eye on EU
USA and Russia have nothing to say in EU. And we need to keep it that way.
For the Europeans, defense preparedness should consider/ start with installing a new defense system rather than relying on the American one already in use in Europe 🥸
