Was this dr who? Feel like I remember seeing this but was too young to understand it properly.
Yes, let’s not have another Boer War situation.
This is Farage’s wet dream.
Remaining together is the best thing to do considering all the hate we get which leads to plant the poison seed among us
Err I thought the premise is that they weren’t forcing them out of he country, but forcing them off the mortal coil. That’s why he was so upset, with “it’s happening again”.
See ICE in America. We are only one election away from that potentially being a reality. It petrifies me.
Worth watching ‘Years and years’ for a fairly accurate prediction of the rise of the far right and anti-immigrant sentiments.
That’s weird as I just watched that episode last night before bed as I’m doing a doctor who rewatch. Weird timing
The problem is. Reform voters will watch this and go “we should have done this sooner”. They will never listen and blame the actual problem.
…because things were much better in the early 2000s and now the wheels have firmly come off.
Our political class has made choices to benefit one generation at the cost of future generations. They have not invested on infrastructure to pay for the pensions and healthcare of the same generation that benefitted from selling off social housing in the 1980s.
Immigration keeps this ship afload because young British people won’t do the social care work our ageing population needs. Boomers simply won’t cough up a livable wage for their care. Yet simultaneously they complain about immigration and racially abuse the foreign care and medical staff that what they are willing to pay for.
The government seems content for the majority to work for the state or be on welfare. They squeeze the ever shrinking private sector and professional class for tax revenue. The average earner has one of the lowest tax rates in the OECD yet they feel those who earn more should pay more despite higher earners paying 66% of the UK income tax take.
You can start to see why the government is paralysed by short termism and has essentially trapped itself.
“Sowing…..Digging! It’s good!”
This is when Dr Who was really good.
I’ve thought about this episode a lot in the current climate 🙁
Her face does in fact look bothered
Well I never, Bernard Cribbens, that is a blast from the past.
Turn left was an amazing episode
Going back and watching makes you realise how bad doctor who is now
A few years ago I watched the short film The Long Goodbye by Riz Ahmed and Aneil Karia. It’s about Asian families being rounded up on a quiet British suburban street by groups of armed, masked men. They’re bundled into vans and driven away while their white neighbours watch on silently.
It’s powerful, and utterly terrifying, but at the time I took it as kind of an illustrative exaggeration of the direction attitudes and policies were heading with Brexit, and under Boris Johnson’s Tories. I didn’t think it could really actually happen here. Now, watching it again hits slightly differently, because it literally is happening in the US with ICE. Armed, masked men are abducting brown people on the street and bundling them into vans, never to be seen again. Documented or undocumented it doesn’t seem to matter – you can be a target if your skin colour isn’t the “right” shade.
Farage and his neo-far-right party are following the Trump playbook, and being advised and guided by the same people who got Trump elected. If reform get power, there is a very real possibility that we will see a similar organisation to ICE here, doing the same things. We can’t be complacent. Every thought that “it couldn’t happen here” makes it more likely that it actually will happen here.
It was already too late by 2008.
Bothered dough, am I, does this face look bothered dough
Being forced to live in the north, that was the most dystopian part of the episode.
The episode implies they’re being sent to a concentration camp, not being deported.
Maybe I’ve missed something in the news, but which immigrants a being “forced out”?
It’s funny there’s actually only a small percentage of people that want people to go back… yet the media makes people think half the population thinks this which is incorrect. Righty’s and lefty’s being brainwashed by the media to create conflict
Awwww biggums
So was an alien invasion a Dr Who horror story.
The comment section is so brainwashy and bias in sample size. This is why people vote against your views. Echo chambers get filled, and when there is not enough space for others, distain grows, just saying.
Notice how every comment, attacks an opposing view point or blames somebody else. Without there being opposition.
This is what you call, a fallen system. Forget immigration, the very fabric of our communication is hastening towards something far worse.
Oh I miss Saxon, the country ran better under him.
Unemployment was low, productivity was high, no labour shortage and decent wages, communities coming together.

Why’d we ever let him go.
