A vile criminal habit and guilty perps should be locked up for a few days as that's the only way they'll stop. That goes for anyone who spits in public spaces.

  1. But who is doing this disgusting practice predominantly ? (¬_¬)

  2. Disgusting.

There needs to be a campaign against spitting in general. So many people seem to think it’s okay to spit when they’re out jogging.

  3. This has been going on for ages, I remember signs in Wembley like 10-15 years ago

  4. The stains this stuff leaves behind is disgusting, plus the damage to health of the user and the community as a whole are just immense .

  5. Couldn’t the wardens who fine people for littering also fine for spitting paan, or anything else for that matter?

The stains don’t look very easy to remove and whilst it’s entirely up to you if you choose to do this at home in public it’s disgusting.

  6. Something you see everywhere in India (I’m half Indian and grew up in India), so not surprising to see it in Brent with population demographics.

It’s certainly not all Indians, most Indians look down upon these paan spitters, but it is definitely a certain type of person. But all the white Redditors on this thread can stop being PC about it, it’s a fact from any Indian’s lived experience.

  7. I don’t know what the fuss is about. It’s just another bonus of multiculturalism. We should embrace it.

  8. When I migrated to this country 30 years ago I noticed pissing and spitting openly in the UK is a very common thing everybody did. Then I spent 1 hot summer day in Battersea park last year and noticed both men and women pisses in the bush after alcohol like that’s the public toilet by default

  9. Not to excuse or fail to condemn their behaviour, but for a little intro, I’ve visited India and paan use is most strongly common in villages.

Rural folks will walk through the country chewing the leaves and spitting it out into the muddy fields. Obviously it does no harm there.

While it is disappointing, it’s a problem of integration, not completely a failure of decency. Some of these guys, and I say some because I strongly believe that most of this can be attributed to a relative handful of a much larger population, simply struggle to change the mentalities they have from living in their villages.

And while that sounds crude and critical and somewhat is, even if it’s not acceptable, let’s appreciate when considering the matter at hand that it is reasonably not a simple thing.

Any one who changes from their home to another place will struggle to easily adapt no matter their intent. These people lack the understanding of values, and this problem can be affected by a steady aligned enforcement and awareness of the problematic nature of these actions.

And yes, some of them are rather just bad apples, but they’re the same assholes who show up at a certain percentage in every population. Dave will get hammered out of his mind and catcall women at 2am, Dinesh spits his paan out because he’s too much of an asshole to walk to a bin or use a tissue. These kind of twats need to be confronted and dealt with, but they are by no means representative of a wider categorical population, nor a fundamental issue of demographics.

  10. They’ve been trying to ā€œcrack downā€ on this since I was a teenager, I’m 30 now šŸ˜‚ they should do the same in Harrow

  11. That’s what you get I’m afraid, it’s called cultural enrichment.

  12. I think anybody that expels bodily fluids in public should have their DNA involuntarily added to a register.

Who knows how many criminals you could catch by cataloguing bottles of piss thrown out of vehicles.

  13. Mum’s a doctor.

Used to work in third world country where TB is rife. Not saying people shouldn’t chew paan if they come from a culture that does it. But for fucks sake, have some decency and do it at your own place if youre just going to spit it out at a public place.

I see so many spits and phlegmy spits on the streets of London and it’s fucking disgusting behaviour.

The worst bit is they don’t even bother spitting into a gutter or somewhere people won’t step on it. They just leave their spot on the middle of the path.

Fuck spitters. Spitting fines need to be more strictly enforced

  14. Spitting, littering. Some people simply don’t see what is wrong with it. We cannot be soft about it because they just don’t get it, it needs to be punished every time. Should be treated like a criminal matter, issue criminal records not just a fine and council issue to sort. I’m dreaming, I know… my car was broken into and the Met didn’t even have the resources to investigate that :/

  15. I live in Wembley. I see paan spitting regularly. Nothing will be done. Also, I’m sick of seeing the sign telling people not to spit or they’ll be fined. Guess what, people spit on the sign board. You cannot educate habitual idiots. I give up.

  16. people shouldn’t ideally spit anything, even if pure saliva.

but to knowingly spit stuff that stains is pure disrespect. I can at least accept the idea that regular spit will evaporate, leave no trace

  17. It’s gross but Brent has a lot bigger fish to fry. I have two asylum hotels in a ten minute radius from me and there’s a lot worse going on than paan spitting. I see kids doing drug deals literally in broad daylight in front me.Ā
