Israel colluded with Fine Gael to defeat council motion

  1. It was a county council motion to not buy military equipment from Israel, What a pointless waste of time posturing from 2015. County councils dont buy military anything.

  2. Interesting to see targetted social media brigading operation like this by Israel (in Ireland) going back to 2015. Make you wonder about what other campaigns have been conducted since.

  3. >“The vote was preceded by concentrated and intensive activity by ‘Facebook soldiers’ (operated by the embassy) led by B. Williams in cooperation with the ambassador, who was in constant contact with the council representative from the ruling FG party and assisted him in drafting a different resolution, contradicting that of Sinn Féin,” he added.

There’s plenty of these “soldiers” around r/ireland the last couple of years.

    Edit:

This must be the B. Williams they’re talking about:

  4. Mental that Israel is lobbying such low levels of government. A decent editor would make it clear that this was a decade ago.

  5. Wow, this is the weakest shit in a while. Read the article lads.

Sinn Féin proposed a motion a decade ago (2015), that *Kildare County Council* should “urge” the government to boycott Israeli miltary weapons.

Let’s ignore the futility of this for a second and that county councils shouldn’t be wasting their time on this crap.

The vote was defeated 21 to 7. Presumably with 12 absentions, because there were 40 council members at that time.

At the time, KCC had 5 Sinn Féin members. Presumably they all voted for it. And 2 others voted for it. Which means that there were 33 other council members – FG, FF, Labour & independents – who either voted against or abstained on this motion.

However, the Ditch has decided that it was definitely defeated because of two FG members of this council. Because the IDF put in a strong social media campaign at that time, and had been in contact with someone from FG. So it was definitely the 9 members of FG who managed to defeat this motion 21-7.

Oh no wait, those FG members just went on to be TDs. That means it was definitely just the two of them.

I’m not a FG supporter by a long shot. I highlight this because the Ditch has clearly dropped any pretence of being independent journalism and is now just the “We hate Fine Gael” media, supporting by Paddy Cosgrave.

And anyone who uses the Ditch as a primary source of anything, cannot be taken seriously. You may as well rely on *An Phoblacht* for your news.

  6. Let me get this right.

A resolution on armaments by (checks notes) a county council in the midlands in 2015 long before current events in Gaza?

This resolution was overwhelmingly rejected 21-7 mainly because the purchase of armaments don’t fall under a county council? (always a wonder at the hypocrisy when Sinn Fein had no problems buying armaments from Libya for example).

The Israeli embassy whose job is to represent Israel’s political position in Ireland contacted a Councillor and gave him the Israeli line. Remember now we are in 2015 – eight years before the start of the current Gaza war. Something something about the Israeli embassy having two social media lads in Dublin posting pro-Israel narratives on social media.

This is the greatest codswallop of a non-story even if all the facts are true by Putin’s “news agency” in Ireland. When is the ditch going to come clean on its funding rather than checking the tax disks on politicians partners and other “hard hitting” reportage. They should at least let Chay write his letter from Moscow weekly to let us know how he’s getting on.

  7. And if you believe they weren’t behind the Herzog park renaming being quashed I have a bridge to sell you

  8. Ditch 😂, hello Moscow you still funding that “legal secretary” who thinks he’s a reporter in The Ditch?!🤔

  9. “Director of civil society activities at the Israeli foreign affairs ministry Amir Ofek emailed several Israeli officials just days after the Kildare County Council vote to tell them about the Dublin embassy’s efforts to block the motion.

“The proposal by the Sinn Féin party in the Kildare City Council to adopt BDS and call on the Irish government to stop purchasing Israeli military equipment due to Israel’s ‘war crimes’ in Gaza was rejected by a large majority of 21 to 7,” said Ofek in his Hebrew-language email dated 29 July, 2015.

    Extremely worrying.

  10. Get that park renamed tomorrow. I used to think it was maybe just a brownie point motion, but if those despicable Israelis and the American lapdogs they pay for think they can bully us into doing what we want in our own country fuck them all. Rename it Palestine Park to spite the cunts, we do what we want.

  11. The ditch? I’d sooner believe my dangle berries opinion.

  12. Highlighting direct evidence of foreign interference in the Irish political system is antisemitic.
