This story has relevance to Scotland as the Scottish Government have raised similar concerns about the current UK Government by-passing Holyrood. (reported by the Daily Record and discussed here a year ago https://www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/comments/1evbzfa/labour\_plan\_to\_bypass\_holyrood\_with\_direct/)

  1. Both Scottish and Welsh governments need to be more adversarial with Westminster.

  2. Welsh Labour like to portray themselves as independent from Westminster because they think it plays well with Welsh voters. Push comes to shove – they will put Westminster first.

This is just another PR stunt.

  3. Nae worries we’ve got Anas behind us….😉

  4. Right, this is the Pride in Place scheme, that is set up to partially replace the Shared Prosperity Fund, which the tory government(s) set up to replace EU funds after Brexit, the SPF was controlled by Westminster, rather than by local authorities or devolved administrations as the EU funds were.

But Wales is also getting a Local Growth Fund that _is_ controlled by the Welsh government, rather than from Westminster, restoring control over funding that the Tories took away. This fund is larger than the Pride in Place funds are.

Pride in Place is also a time-limited scheme, that only lasts a few years.

So, Wales is continuing with a smaller amount of funds directly awarded by Westminster, while also getting a larger amount of funds that will be controlled by Wales.

Does not initially seem like a rollback of devolution to me.

  5. WM wants to rollback the experiment of devolution.

I’d rather roll back the UK into its normal conclusion.

  6. All a PR Stunt. Give it a month and Scottish Labour suddenly start pretending to be the party of the common Scot until they get votes in next years election. Then it’ll be back to London lickspittals as soon as they have your vote.
