The third season of the Israeli spy show “Tehran,” about an Israeli-Persian Mossad agent named Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan), already aired in Israel last year to great critical acclaim.
But audiences outside of Israel were left in suspense, and not because of Rabinyan’s adventures. Apple TV+, which co-produces the show with Israeli KAN11, decided to pause its plans to premiere the long-awaited season on its platform — likely due to the Israel-Hamas war.
Now, the wait is finally (almost) over, and it comes with extra great news. Not only will season three of “Tehran” premiere on Apple TV+ on Jan. 9, 2026, but the show has also been renewed for a fourth season! After season two’s Glenn Close feature and Hugh Laurie guest starring in season three, we can’t wait to see which big stars will join the show next.
The season will air weekly on Apple TV+, with the first episode coming out on the Friday, Jan. 9 release date, and the rest airring every Friday through Feb. 27. Along with Sultan, Shaun Toub and Shila Ommi return for season three; the season also features Bahar Pars, Phoenix Raei and “Shtisel” and “Kugel” star Sasson Gabay, who told Kveller he loved working closely with Sultan on this season and studying Persian for the first time. Gabay plays Nissan, another Mossad agent sent to Tehran to confront Tamar after she loses her closest ally in season two and finds herself unmoored.
As for Laurie, who joined the show because he was a genuine fan, he plays Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector sent to Iran.
In an interview with Kan last year, Sultan promised that this season really amps up the action in the already action-filled series, and the trailer does seem to hold true to the promise of an intrigue-filled season.
As for season four, it’s already in production in Israel. Back in June, around the time Sultan welcomed her first child, baby Neta (mazel!!), Mako reported that the writing of season four had already been in the works for a few weeks, if not months. They also reported that the show was casting for new roles, including two Russian characters (!) and two Israeli men named Roee and Idan, with filming projected to start around this past October 2025 and taking place in Greece, just like season three.
In the meantime, we can’t wait to watch season three, and get back into the dark, action-packed and suspenseful world of Tamar Rabinyan.
