Malaysia: Scientists turn bedbugs into crime-scene spies • FRANCE 24 English

as enemy in the bed. Actually it can be as spy. I think it can be used as a tools because why it can be used for tools because it’s there it doesn’t move around to other places. So you can see that a perfect use for the forensic tools compared to uh mosquito that fly around. Based on our research with the uh with the STR marker can give the basic phenotypic profiling the hair color, eye color and skin color and then the STR marker give you male and gender.

Bedbugs are a nightmare for many, but Malaysian researchers have discovered that these blood-feeding insects can serve as a remarkably useful tool in crime-scene investigations. Bedbugs retain DNA traces from the blood they’ve consumed for up to 45 days, making it possible to determine the gender, eye colour, or hair colour of the people they’ve bitten – and therefore to identify potential perpetrators.

  1. Wow! Just the name bad bugs gives me Alexinomia. My friend brought a wooden box from India as present. I opened the box. I thought what a cute creature. I don't like killing, so left it there. Ohh goodness! The suffering it has cause me for a long time indescribable. Doctors were worse than the bed bugs as they expect to have the same reaction to bed bugs as everyone else, brush off the symptoms some sufferers go through. If the doctors had took it serious at the beginning , It wouldn't have been so bad.

  2. Gross! To think- A person could die in a 3rd world country, in a room or bed infested with bedbugs is a terrible thought. What if a killer used mosquito repellant in bed?

  3. That’s why you should sleep on floor do u know how bad and dirty beds are when sleeping on floor u get better back posture, better breathing and fresh air and good for bones

  4. Malaydesh malaydesh 😂😂

  5. Aww Great Mow The Policeman Have Decided To Use Bedbugs To Spy On People Even Though That Unfortunately The Bedbug Will Also Make The Policeman Feel Itchy While The Policeman Is On Duty Eh.

  6. The title makes it sound like Malaysia just invented bed bug forensics, but this isn’t new. Insects have been studied for DNA recovery before, mosquitoes, flies, even bed bugs. What’s happening here is repackaging old science with flashy headlines. Calling it ‘crime scene bed bugspies’ is just a hype. Real innovation evolves, not recycles.

Other countries already knew insects can store DNA mosquitoes, flies, even bed bugs. Malaysia just discovered it late and wrapped it in hype. ‘Hebat Malaysia’ they say, Third world celebrates bed bugs while the rest of the world evolves
