Apple TV is the home to thrillers like the popular Severance, Slow Horses, and Hijack. However, it’s an underrated cyber-spy thriller that’s getting some attention as of late.

Apple TV has confirmed that Tehran, which boasts an 88% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and an 87% audience rating, will be getting a fourth season at the streamer, according to Deadline. Tehran’s Season 2 finale aired back in June 2022. It was also confirmed that Tehran Season 3 will debut on Apple TV on Jan. 9, 2026. The official Season 3 trailer can be viewed below.

In addition to the show being renewed for a fourth season, Tehran has added Golden Globe-winning actor Hugh Laurie (House, The Night Manager) to its cast. Tehran follows the story of Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan), a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity in an attempt to destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor. However, when her mission fails to accomplish that, Tamar has to plan an operation that places everyone she loves in jeopardy.

Tehran also stars Glenn Close, Shaun Toub, Shila Ommi, Shervin Alenabi, Sara von Schwarze, Nofar Boker, and Tamir Ginsburg. The show was created by Dana Eden, Moshe Zonder, and Maor Kohn and written by Tony Saint and Simon Allen. Tehran is directed by Daniel Syrkin. Season 3 will consist of eight episodes. Tehran first premiered on Apple TV back in 2020.

Laurie’s role will be that of Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector. In addition to Laurie, the new season will also feature actors Sasson Gabai, Phoenix Raei, and Bahr Pars. Tehran is produced by Apple TV and KAN 11, the Israeli public broadcaster, and is executive produced by Eden and Shula Spiegel for Donna and Shula Productions; Alon Aranya for Paper Plane Productions; Julien Lerox for Paper Entertainment; Zonder, Syrkin, Omri Shenhar, Saint, Dari Shai Slutzky, and Tal Fraifeld and Ronny Perry for Kan.

Apple TV Postpones 2 Thrillers

News of Apple TV renewing Tehran comes just days after the streamer scrapped another thriller series. Apple TV was set to premiere a French thriller show, but as of late November, all evidence of the series has mysteriously disappeared from the site after accusations of plagiarism.

“The broadcast of our series The Hunt has been temporarily postponed,” a spokesperson for the French production company Gaumont said. “We are currently conducting a thorough review to address any questions related to our production. We take intellectual property matters very seriously,” they added.

The Hunt isn’t the only Apple TV series to be pulled this year. Jessica Chastain’s The Savant was postponed following the assassination of conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk. “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date,” the streamer said at that time.

Chastain also commented on the postponement of her series, saying, “I want to say how much I value my partnership with Apple. They’ve been incredible collaborators, and I deeply respect their team. That said, I wanted to reach out and let you know that we’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant.”

Tehran will premiere its Season 3 on Jan. 9, 2026, and will debut episodes every Friday through Feb. 27.
