Russian tanker attacked off Turkey, Putin warns of retaliation • FRANCE 24 English

This Russian tanker came under a drone attack off the Turkish coast. None of the 13 crew members on board were harmed. Carrying sunflower oil. It was sailing from Russia to Georgia according to Turkey’s maritime authority. It’s unclear who is behind this attack. Ukraine denies it had a role with a foreign ministry spokesperson suggesting Moscow may have staged the whole thing. It is the third such attack on Russian flag vessels in the Black Sea in recent days. Ukraine was behind these as they were targeting sanctioned tankers which were headed to a Russian port to load oil for foreign markets. They’re part of Russia’s shadow fleet which use opaque ownership and management structures to conceal their cargo. Those attacks were attempts by Kee to put pressure on Moscow’s oil sector which it uses to finance the war. Russia’s President Putin warned of consequences if such strikes continue. What the Ukrainian armed forces are doing is piracy. What kind of retaliatory measures can we take? Firstly, we would extend the range of our strikes on vessels and boats entering Ukrainian ports. The most radical solution is to cut Ukraine off from the sea. Then piracy will be impossible for Ukraine in principle. Meanwhile, the Turkish owner of a Russian linked oil tanker that was damaged by explosions near Sagal’s coast last week said on Tuesday that it was ceasing all shipping operations involving Russian interests.

  4. I'm no expert but that tanker is sitting awfully high out of the water to be full of anything. Typically any tanker when it's full of cargo will be sitting much further down in water. 🥴🤷🤷

    They expanded the war , now Russia would have to expand the war.
    They will destroy each others economic properties…..
    How does that help the cause of peace.

  15. These attacks will be answered with civilian lives. Leaders don't care much about civilian lives. If they started retaliating on the leaders' family members, then they would take it seriously.
