Hello there!
I’m moving to Belgium, Liege by the end of the year from Germany.
I was planning to take my car with me but after I found out how much I have to pay every year for road tax I think I’ll change my mind.
The car in question is a 2006 Corvette 6.0L and in the simulator it gave me a road tax over 10.000€ (!?!?!?) can someone confirm this? Is it normal to have this kind of values?!

Yes this is normal. Turn it into a LPG engine powered on and there is no issue.
Belgium hates big engines, the tax is 100% retarded. Nobody is going to drive their 6.0 liter car daily and pay for the gas that it would cost to drive. But we don’t like car enthusiasts here, so there’s no way for an enthusiast to cheaply drive their pride and joy 2-4 times a month and not be broke.
Sounds about right unfortunately
Sounds about right, you pay for the amount of pollution/engine size and fiscal hp
Yes this is right … this country is dumbfuck
For a 6 liter plus sky high CO2 numbers? Absolutely
Road tax in Belgium is based on emissions. I don’t know how much the emissions are for a Corvette 6.0L, but I can imagine it’s not exactly environmentally friendly. So €10k could be correct, if it’s not, it’s not going to be cheap anyway.
If you want a high performance car in Belgium you’re better off buying something with a turbo because those usually don’t have such high emissions.
I used to own a BMW 1M coupe, which had a 3.0L twin turbo. Road tax was only €700 a year. A friend of mine had an old stinky Volvo Diesel and he paid more road tax than me.
Belgian tax system just loves to kill all possible nice things
Lol.
Lmao even.
My previous employer payed 13k a year for his 5.0 mustang
Just buy a dodge trx 😏 and you’ll pay less taxes then someone with a ford fiesta 1L
I don’t think that’s correct. I have an older car with a 5.5 V12, and I’m paying 3500€/year. I think you mixed it up with the registration tax. That might indeed be 10k€ but you only have to pay it once. It als decreases over time. I only had to pay 75€ as the car was already 28 years old.
Bottom line: compared to Germany, car taxes here are borderline theft, unless you have a classic car. Then it’s 45€/year flat.
Yeah our politicians hate us.
Love the image lmao
Out of curiosity, what’s the tax on that BEAST in Germany?
In 10 years it will cost like €75 if you register it as a classic. 10k sounds like a lot. You have to pay a 1 off fee to register it, then on top there is a reoccurring fee. I pay less than 1k / year for a 3l supercharged v6. The registration was more 🙁
Sounds about right. You pay BIV (belasting op inverkeersstelling) 1 time to get the car registered which is calculated on your CO2 emission and the age of your car. The newer it is, the more you pay.
And also road tax which you pay every year, calculated by emission and engine size. For my 2021 Audi rs5 i paid 5k BIV and around 1k tax for 220g CO2. So 10k for a 300g car won’t be far off.
Welcome to Belgium dude. It’s even more in Flanders.
Why not move to Aachen and commute?
Or keep an address in Germany and keep the Vette on German plates..
2010 E90 M3
4.0 V8
263 CO2
€3350 per year
The first ‘simulation’ you get also includes a one-time ‘inverkeerstelling’, hence the (even more) ridiculous number of
Yes, it’s theft. Keep it in storage till it’s an oldtimer. 🙂
Thats why we wait for them to become classics.
I pay 120 euros per year for my 71 corvette.
Looking for a good c5 already to become 30 years.
Wrong car for Liege overall.
But check for oldtimer.
As pointed out, that 10k is composed of two numbers.
1) Registration fee = “BIV”, Belasting op de Inverkeerstelling. Which is one time (per owner).
2) Road tax = “VB”, Verkeersbelasting. Which is yearly.
But yes, 10k sounds about right for a ‘vette.
Its true unfortunately, i recently moved from Finland and was planning to bring my car with me (2013 Toyota crown 3.5l v6) but found the taxes would be 2.5-3k per year so abandoned that idea. Still brought with me since i can drive 6 months on Finnish plates but will go back in March. Fun is not allowed here. The tax in Finland is 262€/year
I want to know what jobs you all have to afford such high car taxes. €10k/year is a huge chunk out of each paycheck to save up for, each freaking year. (Thank you Belgium.)
2021 Skoda Karoq – ~€250/year.
