  1. Is she actually gonna try to do something or is it all just lip service?

  2. Wonder what she would say about the alternative scenarios.

  3. She’s not wrong.
The only benefit will be deep catalogue of already made stuff.

  4. Every time you see one large company buying another it concentrates even more wealth to the top, reduces jobs, and monopolizes the market.

  5. No shit. I got rid of my subscriptions and started buying up discs again. My library, MY CHOICES

  6. Little does she know that there is a large group of people who are about to swear Netflix of forever once Stranger Things is over.

  7. There’s only one choice for me. Abandon television

  8. its true, and it is guaranteed to get pricier

But we honestly dodged a bullet that the Ellisons didnt purchase it

  9. Anybody who thinks this is a good thing is crazy.

  10. Never been a better time to emulate Captain Jack Sparrow.

  11. NO SHIT!!! It’s almost like they are trying to create a monopoly!!! Someone should shoot that merger down!!!

  12. True. But we can’t ignore the fact that these studio purchases and approvals are not based on entertainment anymore. It’s about feeding the propaganda machine.

    ABC. CBS. CNN. Fox News.

As much as we want to dream about creativity and art of film/television. They want to be able to dictate the news in order to hide their crimes.

So, of the people bidding for WB, Netflix is the closest to being “not as evil”. And that is a very very sad thing to accept.

  13. Not that I disagree but nothings been really stopping them from ratcheting up the subscription prices every year anyway

  14. There’s no good outcome here though. This admin is not going to question big mergers, and TBH I think Netflix is a better buyer than the Ellisons. Not significantly better, but better

  15. Netflix is now more than double what I used to pay, has ads and doesn’t even fucking include 4k!

  16. She’s going to oppose this and then Larry Ellison is going to buy it. Liberals and shooting yourself in the foot, name a more iconic duo.

  17. Don’t forget the inevitable firing of thousands of employees too

  18. WE HAVE ANTI-TRUST LAWS. THEY WERE LITERALLY WRITTEN BECAUSE OF MOVIE STUDIOS DOING THIS SHIT LIKE THIS. WHY DON’T WE ENFORCE THEM.

  19. People complained Netflix lost all this content and now that they are securing content it’s antitrust.

What about all the companies that took their catalogues and put them behind paywalls and people actually pay more than cable now if they want a complete catalogue of content and have to watch ads in addition to paying.

    Sheesh make up your minds.

  20. Why is this a nightmare but Skydance buying Paramount and Warner Discovery OK? Para would be merging 2 of the biggest movie studios, not to mention two news channels. And the Trump influence? Not saying Netflix is perfect, but this seems the best option out of the 3 possibilities. And WBD can still sell/spin off the cable networks. Seems like a win for WBD shareholders

  21. Right now we have the freedom to rotate subscriptions to save money. Consolidation of content/IP gives us fewer choices and they can raise prices even more.

  22. Monopolization of distribution aside, this type of vertical integration should never have been allowed. Distributors of content and producers of content should be separate entities. Let distributors compete with each other for the right to distribute content.

  23. And I suppose you wanted Paramount to get it. You’re as crooked as anyone.

  24. Sounds like it would be a good idea for people if the government actually enforced anti-trust laws. Granted I don’t know where this sits in terms of monopolies, but too many giant companies are buying other giant companies and shit just keeps getting worse and more expensive. /end old man rant

  25. As if prices going up every couple of months wasn’t bad enough.

  26. Monopolies only ever are bad things folks. Less theatre movies, less theatres surviving, less choice, more ad tiers, and prepare for the mega job cuts as they combine companies . The recruiter office at Netflix is about to be swamped with Warner resumes.

  27. Anyone else have an elderly parent who subscribes to Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ but then yells about not being able to afford utilities when you try to use the heater during winter? People’s priorities are fucked up man. I don’t even watch TV because I can barely afford groceries, and my kid has to eat, not watch garbage on the box for hours.

  28. I yearn to resurrect teddy roosevelt and break the monopolies.

  29. I don’t want more choices.

We had lower prices when Netflix was the only options.

    Just sayin….

  30. I agree it’s bad. But they’re selling it regardless of her opinion, and I’d rather Netflix get it than Saudi Arabia.

  31. I guess all us lazy couch potatoes will either go broke or abandon this ‘entertainment’ source and read books again. I am constantly on streaming services but if these corporations are gonna bleed us dry, I’ll finally have the motivation to beat the addiction and go out in the world and LIVE!

  32. As opposed to Paramount, NBC or Comcast owning it?
