Mercadona opened its first supermarket in the city of Lisbon this month, but it will not stop there. The Spanish group intends to open its second establishment in the capital during the first quarter of 2026, by March, and thus reach 70 stores in the national territory, according to a report by NM.

“In the first quarter of 2026, the company will open its second store in the city, in Quinta do Lambert (Lumiar), reaching the milestone of 70 stores in the country,” reads a statement released by the company.

This announcement came at the time when Mercadona opened its first store in Lisbon, located in Alta de Lisboa, on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio. The company considered that “this is an important step in the company’s expansion plan in Portugal, which now brings it closer to the ‘Bosses’ (customers) who have long requested a store in the capital.”

“The Mercadona in Alta de Lisboa, the 9th in the district, has created 90 new, stable, and high-quality jobs with permanent contracts from day one,” the statement also reads.

The company revealed that the establishment “has a sales area of 1900 m2 and includes the following sections: Butcher, Fishmonger, Delicatessen, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Home Care and Pets, Fruits and Vegetables, Wine Cellar, and Ready-to-Eat with self-service and various options of prepared dishes to take away or eat in the store, in an exclusive area for this purpose.”

“It has 300 parking spaces, including 6 designated for charging electric vehicles, fulfilling the company’s commitment to electric mobility,” the statement also reads.

Furthermore, “within its Social Action plan, and as is the case in all stores in the chain, Mercadona will donate essential goods to the Musgueira Social Center from day one.”
