The Lithuanian government has declared a state of emergency due to the emergence of air probes coming from Belarus. According to Lithuanian authorities, these are balloons and probes used for the illegal transportation of cargo across the border.
Lithuanian Interior Minister Wladislaw Kondratowitsch emphasized that the decision to impose a state of emergency is motivated not only by airspace violations but also by threats to the national security of the country.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, described such actions as ‘unacceptable hybrid attacks’ on an EU country.
Official Minsk denies all allegations and claims no connection to these incidents.
It should be noted that recently at Vilnius Airport, the flight of a drone was detected in a restricted area.
The declared state of emergency demonstrates the seriousness of the situation and Lithuania’s readiness to respond to potential threats. Control over airspace and security remains a priority for Lithuanian authorities as the country seeks to ensure the protection of its citizens and national interests.
