Moldova Seeks Emergency Electricity Supply from Romania Amid Energy Imbalance

As Ukrinform reports, Point reports this, citing deschide.md.

The state-owned Moldelectrica announced that during the day and in the evening on Monday it was forced to once again appeal to Romania with a request for emergency electricity supply.

The statement also emphasizes that emergency energy is not tied to supply under commercial contracts or through market exchanges and carries a higher cost. The final settlement amount will be known at the beginning of January.

Reasons for the appeal and terms of supply

The appeal is driven by an imbalance in the energy system – due to the limited capacity of the interconnection line with Romania and the deviation of actual consumption and production from forecasts on the electricity market.

For the current week, the capacity for the Ukraine–Moldova joint control block stands at 2,150 MW. These values are calculated weekly by regional coordination centers of the transmission system operators.

Context and next steps

The situation is under constant monitoring: possible changes to calculations and regional coordination center decisions are processed in real time.

The actions taken are aimed at supporting Moldova’s power system in cases of imbalances and reducing risks in the energy market, in light of events in the region.

The course of events in the supply sphere currently depends on regional center coordination decisions and may change depending on the calculations.
