  1. It would be fair enough if they didn’t use their wealth and power to rig everything in their favour but they do. Fall of Rome shit

  2. So …. What are we going to do?
Show the poorest half of humanity how to start and run a successful business and invest the proceeds in long-term growth funds?

  3. If it were a simulation you’d consider it a ridiculous outlier and cast it aside

  4. While wealthy inequality is a _huge_ problem, I tend to take reports like this with a pinch of salt.

For example, I’ve recently taken out a mortgage. My actual wealth is technically negative by some metrics, and that would put me well into that bottom third.

I’m living reasonably comfortably in a stable, developed, peaceful country, which I reckon probably puts me in the top 5% worldwide in terms of quality of life.

  5. the weird irony at the moment is that extreme right wing parties that will increase this wealth inequality are getting voted in/popular support by the poorest in society because of racism/xenophobia and lack of education.

    You couldn’t make it up.

  6. Don’t worry it’ll trickle down any day now. We can’t take any more of their money or they might leave.

  7. This comes up so often it’s wild. But you are probably in that global top 10%. Or you will be in the future.

Lifted directly from the report, chapter 1 – https://wir2026.wid.world/insight/global-economic-inequity

“To belong to the top 10%, an individual must earn about €65,500 per year (around €5,460 per month). To reach the top 1%, the threshold rises to about €250,300 annually (€21,860 per month). Unsurprisingly, most of the population earning at these levels is concentrated in Europe, North America, and Oceania.”

These reports aren’t talking about what you think they are. The fact is, if you’re in a developed country it’s a good chance you’ll be in the global top 10% and responsible for a huge amount of emissions.

The bottom 50% is so poor it’s incomprehensible just what that level of poor is. We are talking, no water and living in mud built buildings. Not people living in a council house.

The bottom 50% of the global population only hold 2% of the total wealth. Which is an insane stat. But it speaks more to just how poor the poorest are Vs a normal westerner.
