📱Regulating Big Tech: Curbing nighttime social media use • FRANCE 24 English

Well, I think the there’s some really simple things like things that Facebook tried themselves. They, you know, they asked kids, “Do you want us to stop sending you notifications late at night?” And it turns out when you don’t send kids notifications, they spend less time on platforms late at night. But Facebook chose to roll that back because they also use it less. But it can be things like slowing the app down late at night. You know, even a tiny bit of delay, less than you would even notice if I asked you like, “Is this slow?” even a small amount of delay between pieces of content, you know, making the feed almost feel like it’s heavier, you know, that can make people use these platforms less. And when we start thinking creatively and listening to users requests, like saying, I I don’t want to be binge consuming late at night, we end up getting more creative solutions.
