  1. Where did you get that info?
From my knowledge a minority really wants that and the rest hate the idea

  2. Majority of Poles = womens and older guys. But not the ones that would be obligated to serve.

  3. Right one is wrong

“I am for somebody ELSE dying for this country”.

That is problem with military service – not those who serve are asked about it.

  4. Majority of Poles (that would not be the subject of compulsory military service), I assume?

  5. why don’t they all volunteer if they like it so much. That ought to solve the problem :))

  6. I’d be for a vote on compulsory military service IF the only people that can vote would be males in fighting age that would be called up.

  7. The majority of these are people not in danger of getting conscripted. Typical, really.

  8. “The majority” is women and old people.

They can go die for this country, i wont

  9. My country did absolutely nothing for me during my 43 years lifetime and I wouldnt do nothing for it in exchange. I was running small company my entire mature life and we are treated like shit here so. Our constitution says that every Polish citizen is obliged to defend the country so I assume that women arent citizens cause they arent obliged.

  10. No, women want it because it doesn’t concern them…

  11. In unrelated news: The majority of Poles is not eligible for compulsory military service.

  12. “*majority of Poles* want to reinstate compulsory military service” = Poles who will not be called up for military service

Priority in joining the army should be given to people who actively lobby for compulsory military service.

I am in my thirties and (most likely) this will not apply to me, but I remember when I was 19, I had better things to do than run around in circles and dig trenches because some bald drill sergeant told me to run around in circles and dig trenches.

I pay quite high taxes so that professional soldiers can defend me.

  13. As a woman, um, no thank u, I’d rather not lose my father and husband

  14. In XXI century, wars are won by professional armies, not waves of barely trained cannon fodder.

Thank you for attending my TED talk.

  15. [insert Anakin and Padme meme]

    Equal for both genders, yeah?

Equality for men and women, right?

  16. Why do i have weird feeling this is far from majority between people that would be affected, because its very easy to be patriotic with someones elses life

  17. if i see kids of the ruling class on battlefield ill consider

  18. Unless Dominika Kulczyk is sent to the very frontlines with a rifle in her hand I’m not willing to fight. They’ve got billions and lands worth protecting. I’ve got nothing.

  19. The majority is older people, women, and people AFTER military service. Most young people – those affected by that decision do not want it. While I love my country and I believe I am a patriot I WILL NOT die for idiots using their power for their own goals. Poland will NEVER die as long as we have ourselves and we showed that tens of times, with the longest one lasting 123 years! Polska gurom!

  20. Honestly, when I hear about this kind of support for bringing back compulsory service, I get a mix of feelings. On one hand, I get that people want to feel safer in these unsettled times. A lot of folks carry a simple, human worry about the future and that’s completely normal. On the other hand, I know how different people’s situations can be and how differently everyone reacts to the idea of the military. I get the sense that many people are just looking for a bit of stability and some kind of plan for rough times. Even if I’m not sure where I personally stand, I can see where it all comes from. What matters is that we can talk about it calmly, without scaring each other and without judging anyone’s fears or beliefs.

  21. Ok. But those in favour go first, right? Right…?

  22. One thing that I find absurd is that women are mostly not considered. It should be absolutely equal if it’s introduced, with no exceptions: even pensioners have a role to play in war.

I wonder how supportive most people would be then. The truth about conscription is that it’s 90% bullshit designed to fill time, and very little of it is useful in ordinary civilian life.

  23. As a pole in the military
stop spreading this bullshit nobody wants that except for people that wont fight

  24. The best part is that all the rightwing patriots (leadership) already declared they will not serve and all their suporting channels grind away excuses and ways to run away (prepare) or legally outsmart not to serve.

  25. Only people who would be involved should have a say here

  26. If the majority want military service, why does it need to be compulsory?

(Of course I know the answer to this, as a large amount of these people know they will be safe from being forces to fight)

A bit like saying “I’m all for tax rises, as long as someone else is paying it and not me”

  27. Most of those who want compulsory military service to be reinstated will not be affected by it.

  28. Ah yes, the classic. People who want compulsory military service are often those already exempted from it. Also, compulsory military service isn’t going to turn people into good soldiers. There is a reason why so many people tried their best to avoid getting drafted back in pre-2008 era. The training itself was subpar and you had no real power over where you would get it. If you were lucky, you would end up in a quality unit that would provide you with great training and if you were unlucky you would end up with a bunch of pathological, alcoholic hobos who would make your life a living hell. People would say that we can improve it but let’s be honest – nobody is buying this BS. There is a saying: “Where logic ends the military begins”.

Tdlr; if you voted for a compulsory military service but aren’t going to be affected by it or you don’t want to pay extra money (taxes etc.) to make it high-quality, you are just a fucking hypocrite.

  29. The title is highly misleading, the social attitude is definitely against compulsory service – the ones who support it are mostly seniors who won’t be affected by it and think this generation is weak or whatever. Partially also women because compulsory service only affects men.

  30. I think that anyone for the draft should be in the rflirst order to be drafted.

  31. funny how old women are all in for young men being drafted, same as old men are all against abortion. why can’t people just shut the fuck up about things that don’t concern them and their bodies. wtf

  32. Ukrainian here.

Mandatory conscription during real peace time is inefficient in so many areas. In the end it is always a place for people who didn’t manage to avoid it via money or knowledge. I would suggest instead of this, a mandatory once every 2-3 years a one month (or at least few weeks) military bootcamp for all (including women). Plus taking a stock of all people skills, so that skilled recruits wouldn’t waste them if a war starts.

Next, the idea behind conscription is to later use the same people in the war. This also doesn’t work quite like expected. Instead Poland should write as a law, now, in the peace time, the rules for conscription for a war time and semi-war time. Like max total time served, max continuous time served, how many recovery days per year, and a million other things, ratified and unchangeable during war. Ukraine saw many volunteers at the beginning of the war, but they are very hard to replace now, since potential recruits see that it is a “for life” affair, indefinite. Even if one comes through alive and unharmed after all those years, it essentially means he has no career, no job, no family etc.
