‘London is safe’: Met chief hits back at Donald Trump’s ‘complete nonsense’ claims about crime in London

  1. It’s a safe as any city with over 9 Million people. I’ve been in London for 25 years and never had any trouble. I’ve had more trouble in my home town up north on the twice yearly visits than I ever have in London. Trump is a cunt.

  2. Lived here 16 years and never experienced any crime so my own anecdotal experience is Trump is full of shit.

  3. Maybe he thinks he can deploy the National Guard here too? It does have a mayor he doesn’t like…

  4. London isnt perfect, but it’s by far the safest mega city I’ve been to. Feel safe walking around or taking the tube at any time.

  5. But Ricky Jervais says you have to hold on to your tennis court in London or it will get nicked

  6. Donald Trump has invaded every US city he has declared crime ridden with the national guard so far. How long before he invades London, Kier Starmer would be out on the streets with a mini stars and stripes if he did.

  7. This “London has fallen” toss is a great example of how propaganda works.

You don’t need it to be true.

You just need to keep repeating it until the people who want it to be true start saying it for you.

Then it becomes the “truth” according to those people.

And anything else is “fake news”.

When you’ve got boomers, who haven’t visited London in 20+ years, running around social media and repeating the lie, you know the propaganda is working.

  8. London is safer than Washington DC, where the gropenfuhrer lives and works.

  9. In general yes it’s safe as a person going about their business.

But there is still a lot of organised crime around. County lines gangs, thefts from building sites/trades vans to resell, fly tipping just to give a few examples.

As we saw with phone thefts and the international connection, it’s now a very small world. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20vlpwrzwdo

  10. The Met chief has made the mistake of bringing facts and evidence to a debate based on feelings and identity.

  11. This is what you have to do. I know it’s tiring and you’ll spend all your time fighting this crap. But this is how you fight back. Call their BS out all the time.

  12. It’s not perfect, and there’s a few dodgy areas with shady characters lurking about, such as Westminster, (Palace of Westminster and Downing Street specifically) but it’s generally safe.

But if you’re obsessed with politics so much that you’re a rabid right winger, and only comfortable being around a handful of people who are just like you, I guess the diversity of London will look scary to you.

  13. I mean, i wouldn’t call it safe but I wouldn’t call it dangerous either.

  14. I do someone’s wonder about the memes about London or the UK in general (Americans often can’t tell the difference) and wonder if it’s a joke that people have begun to believe or a conceited effort to purposefully construe this place as if it’s a knife wielding Mad Max setting when other countries – including America, have just as bad if not worse rates of knife crime.

  15. The population of the US is over 340 million & trump is responsible for them all, hilarious how little old London is often on his mind.
