LAKE CHARLES –

For the second straight game, McNeese guard Tyshawn Archie scored a career-high, this time with 24 points, and McNeese sank a season-high 13 three-point buckets as the Cowboys cruised to a 102-66 Southland Conference win over East Texas A&M in front of 3,179 fans at the Townsley Law Arena.

The win was the third straight for the Cowboys as they improved to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. ETAM evened its record at 5-5 and 0-1 in the conference.

Archie’s 24 points came off of 9 for 11 shooting from the floor that included 5 of 7 aim from three-point range. Larry Johnson added 17 points and eight rebounds and DJ Richards Jr. scored 16 behind 3 of 5 shooting from behind the arc. Javohn Garcia scored 11 to round out the double-digit scorers.

Noah Pagotto led the Lions with 18 points.

McNeese scored the first four points of the game and led 4-2 before a 9-0 run opened up a 15-2 lead with 14:23 to play in the half. Carl Cherenfant started the run with a dunk which was followed by a Garcia layup, Richards 3, Jerrell Colbert dunk then an Archie layup as the Cowboys’ scoring attack was balanced from the start.

ETAM pulled to within 21-14 following a Pagotto 3 with 11:37 to play when McNeese turned up the heat on its way to a 19-3 run over the next 5:03, building the lead to 40-17. It included a 13-0 run that saw Archie sink two threes, one by Garcia, and Richards hitting three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt.

McNeese led 59-29 at the half, marking the fourth time this season, twice in Southland Conference games, to score 50 or more in the first half.

The second half was much of the same with the dominance. McNeese built its largest lead at 93-47 with 7:12 to play after Archie hit another three-pointer then scored its 100th point when Richards made the second of two free throws with 1:26 remaining.

McNeese hit 55.6 percent of its shots for the game (35-63), made 13 of 24 for 54.2 percent from three-point range, and 19 for 24 for 79.2 percent at the free throw line. ETAM made 25 of 61 for 41 percent from the field and 9 of 16 for 56.3 percent at the line. The Lions entered the game as the league’s top team in 3-pointers made, averaging over 10 a game, but were held to 7 of 28 for 25 percent against the Cowboys.

The Cowboys held a 42-28 advantage in the rebounding department, dished out 25 assists on 35 made buckets, recorded 14 steals while forcing 22 turnovers, and blocked six shots.

Next up, McNeese will hit the road once again when it visits HCU on Monday at 7 p.m in a game that’ll be a homecoming for six Cowboy players who are from Houston.
