The Grand Cairo Museum visitors so captivated that they fall into water • FRANCE 24 English

[Music] At the entrance to the Cairo Museum, visitors are greeted by this monumental statue of Pharaoh Rammeses II. 11 m high and weighing 83 tons. Visitors rush to its feet to take pictures. But be careful and pay attention or you might find yourself in the water. It’s been a common occurrence and it’s been all over social media. The promise was a dive into ancient Egypt, not necessarily the pool. There are no barriers, just markings on the floor, but security are on hand to ensure no one goes for a swim, including this French tourist who is a little bit too close for comfort to the edge. Voila. The security guard, he’s been keeping an eye on us. If you’re a bit scatterrained, you can fall quite easily. You look at it and think that could have been me, too. Keep your distance and take the time to wander around what is now the world’s largest museum dedicated to ancient Egypt. Opened in November, it has 80 galleries spread over several floors. The most popular of which is dedicated to the young king Chutin Camun. Here there’s no risk of getting wet and the only thing you’ll soak up is history surrounded by crowds complete with a view of the desert and the pyramids.

After 10 years of waiting, the Grand Cairo Museum opened its doors in early November – a grand project commissioned by President Sissi, who hopes to attract 7 million additional visitors. The first of them, seem so captivated by the Statue of Rameses II that they may end their visit in the water. Story by France 2 and Morgan Ayre.

  1. Most places like streets, parking lots and stadiums use a line of bright yellow paint to help give people a heads up on a change in elevation ( steps, curbs, ect.)

  2. Imagine the irony of those works of wonder survived thousands of years outside, now to be disrespected by weirdly-posing selfie tourists.

  3. Water below king Ramsis the second huge statue represents the Nile River.., this museum is mind blowing and needs like 3 visits to cover properly! Good job Egypt 👌🏻

  4. Safety is always important but are we teaching adults how to walk properly and stand correctly? Less time making selfies and more time enjoying Egyptian antiquities!

  5. Im a real human that would pass by that with no problem, why would i want a picture with a statue when it is of no benefit to me? Its a stupid statue move on.
