Gutted. Walked it more time than I could possibly remember. Cannot see any scenario whereby this gets rebuilt – hell I don’t even think the council could afford to dismantle it.Â
that’s a fukn shame that, did it happen overnight just there?
Wow that’s sad. Not a bridge engineer, but from the look of it, I wonder if it was something as “simple” as the ground washing away under the bridge pier? Possibly something that could’ve been nipped in the bud, but now it’s totally fucked and will never get rebuilt?
That’s a shame – might be worth a post by OP on r/CatastrophicFailure
One of the piers has collapsed, likely due to scour. Will be interesting to find out when the last Scour Assessment was undertaken…
Disaster! It was a great walk/cycle route
Very sad, I often cross it going between Garmouth and Spey Bay walking or on the bikes. Lack of maintenance and inspections from the council I reckon, bridges don’t just fail instantly
Michty, duly noted …
Is this AI?
Hope it gets repaired soon.
On the other hand, at least macgonagall is dead so we won’t have “the Spey bridge disaster”
Viafuct now :/
Who is responsible for maintaining it
Beautiful Pedestrian Bridge of the Silv’ry Spey!
Alas! I am very happy to say.
That no lives have been taken away.
On the second Sabbath day of December 2025,
Which will be remember’d for a small time, I strive.
I hope there were no injures
Gutted!! That bridge is amazing!! Doubt there will be any money to restore it!!
Damn that sucks. It was a lot straighter the day I seen it
Garmouth isn’t it? A mate of mine wheelied over the top of that arch in the 90s
I walked it yesterday and noted that the river was cutting under the bridge more than normal. A couple of trees had fallen down and ended up in the middle of the river creating a bigger bank than normal. Seemed to have split the river on two and one path was washing right under the foundations.
This is so sad. I used to walk over this bridge everyday with my grandparents when they lived in Garmouth.
I mean, on the upside, at least its fallen apart into distinct pieces, as opposed to exploding into a million itty bitty pieces, and its only one part of it thats fallen. Props to those victorian engineers, eh.
Bit of a faff to recover, but at least they’re not going to have to tear the entire thing down and start over
Recent?!?
So sad, was a lovely bridge!
Need independence now lets use our oil money to protect our bonnie auld buildings
Only silver lining is that no one was crossing when it happened. Should have been maintained properly.
Too bad! Hope it will be repaired soon.
That hurts my heart. Many hikes/bike rides done there. I moved, but my family is still there and we always made trips there during my visits.
Bugger, that’s part of NCN1 (and also the Moray Coast Trail). Cyclists will now have to divert about six miles via Fochabers and Mossstodloch.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dji/s/2DG8XjPhmp, here drone footage of the bridge intact from last year.
