Social Security budget: Olivier Faure calls on the Socialists to vote in favor • FRANCE 24 English
With the clock ticking down for the National Assembly’s crucial vote on the future budget of France’s health care system, a big question remains whether it will pass or not. On the left, the head of the Socialist Party called on its MPs to vote for it. There was the freezing of the pension reforms, also the freezing of social services, minimum guarantees and help for families, the handicapped. All of these benefits allow people to live normally. This is not our bill, but it’s not Sebastian news either. It’s one created by Parliament following a month and a half of debate. But on the right, Brunoay, the head of the Republicans, has told his MPs to either abstain or vote no. For him, the healthcare budget is not a compromise, but a hold up. I call these budgets holdups, a taxation holdup and a social holdup, because we’re not doing the pension reforms. and that means that we consent to letting the pension system crumble. The head of the Republicans is not alone in his dislike of the bill. Former Prime Minister Edwell Phipe of the Horizon’s party is also against it. As is the far right national rally party, which continues to call for the prime minister to step down. It would be a major reversal, one that goes back on his politics and their entirety, and that has made us lose a lot of time. I don’t see how he can’t resign. The Loru government continues to warn that if this healthcare budget is not passed, they say that healthcare spending’s deficit could reach 30 billion euros next year from its current 23 billion. In what is expected to be a very close vote if the healthcare budget does pass, it’ll have to go to the Senate, which currently is debating France’s even more divisive 2026 overall budget.
French socialist Party’s leader Olivier Faure said on Monday his party will vote the social security budget’s bill in parliament.
