In the long run the laws of physics are the same in China as they are in America and in the long run a lot of smart Chinese people many of whom are trained at American universities will be able to compete very well. And if both sides are similar but one side has four times more people and brain power and much cheaper electricity that side will offer quite a fight to the other even if America is the financial hub of the world and swimming in investor money.

2. Also power use is very strongly correlated with standard of living. I can’t tell you how wasteful it is that America denies most of his citizens the ability to save a few thousand dollars a year on gas and maintenance.
