Blaise Metreweli, who took the top job at the British spy agency in June, will use a speech at MI6 headquarters to call Russia an ‘aggressive, expansionist, and revisionist’ adversary, just as the US is pressuring Ukraine to sign a peace deal seen as favourable to Putin.

In her first public remarks since taking office, Metreweli will also say that UK support for Ukraine is ‘enduring’.

  1. Does financial times have 1 to 1 with M16 or something? Like they are saying things with confidence about what the head of M16 will say.
Perhaps the ft are the real spy.

  2. It’s been a while at least 2016 when it was, what I thought was, well known that Russia “supports” both sides to increase polarisation and conflict.

  3. To be fair, successive UK governments since at least 2007 when Brown took over, have been doing a good job in creating chaos themselves.

  4. Bare in mind, this is all in aid of persuading YOU its worth your dying fighting russia for the ambition of a political elite over who rules some dipshit eastern European provinces of zero interest or value

  5. Why did no one care when Russia was destroying Dagestan? Or Georgia?

Why are we pushing a Russia narrative when we have calls for death on our own streets against innocents?

  6. The overwhelming impression given by both the media and by public statements from both the government and the intelligence services is that Russian spies and cyber hackers are roaming the land unchallenged with their metaphorical hairy penises out and the UK is lying down with its legs apart waiting.

Maybe instead of issuing press statements, it might be nice if the “new head of Britain’s spy agency” did something about it? When did MI6 start doing PR and Comms? Pretty sure the FSB and GRU don’t bother. I’d like to think that 5, 6 and GCHQ are actively combatting it, but the perception seems to be that it’s happening and we can do fuck all about it…
