Ovintiv has signed a 12-year agreement with Pembina Pipeline Corporation for 0.5 MMtpa of liquefaction capacity at the Cedar LNG facility, strengthening access to Asian LNG markets and expanding export pathways for Montney natural gas.

Ovintiv has entered into a 12-year agreement with a subsidiary of Pembina Pipeline Corporation for 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MMtpa) of liquefaction capacity at the Cedar LNG facility, expanding export options for Canadian natural gas.

Under the agreement, Pembina will provide transportation and liquefaction services to Ovintiv once Cedar LNG reaches commercial operations, currently targeted for late 2028. The capacity will enable Ovintiv to access global LNG markets, complementing its existing natural gas transportation portfolio.

Cedar LNG’s west coast location offers one of the shortest shipping routes from North America to Asian LNG markets, improving netbacks for Montney-sourced gas. Ovintiv said the agreement supports its strategy to enhance market access and maximize the value of its natural gas resources through global LNG participation.

The project underscores the growing role of integrated pipeline and liquefaction infrastructure in linking Canadian gas supply to international demand centers.
