It sure feels like it

  1. It was pretty stupid/greedy. Basically the same things killing this empire just with less technology.

  2. Both the fall of the republic, and the collapse of the empire, were this stupid. At least if surviving records are accurate, they were incredibly stupid, egotistical, and greedy.

  3. If so, we sure have something to look forward to, because the fall of Rome took longer than the US has existed.

  4. The Ottoman Empire finished  off the failing empire… Who’ll do it this time?

  5. Honestly was probably even crazier. We live in a fucked up time, but back then leaders literally had NO rules to follow and ZERO checks and balances.

  6. Cimparing rome to the US is really getting old. It’s such a bad comparison, the US and its history and influence is literally nothing in comparison

  7. If JD Vance gets himself an army and starts fighting Donald Trump’s army, while the Russians slowly expand, that’s the level of stupid the Romans were putting out. But it took them a few hundred years of nonsense before someone finally sacked Rome.

We’re only in act 1. It gets worse.

  8. The Romans had to burn through dozens of emperors to fail….we did it with 1 orange turd

  9. You don’t have a collapse without greed, power and corruption

  10. Corruption leads to some really bad decisions. So probably…

  11. Fall of rome took hundreds of years and was primarily because the empire was simply too big to stay unified. The US has no excuse in the age of instant communication.

  12. “There are barbarians outside the gate”, said one Roman.

“Well now that you say that I’m going to side with the barbarians just to spite you”, said another Roman.

  13. Actually no. The fall of Rome was like if Donald Trump became emperor, got a grandson who he made 2nd emperor, and their grandson became 3rd emperor. And were so unbelievable dumb that this 3rd emperor decided to kill his entire military, enslave all his own supporters and say “Try me” infront of 200 million Americans who’s holding him at gun-point.

Thats how bad Rome fell. Unfortunately, Trump has yet to kill off his own security.m

  14. The parallel are uncanny. The Romans lined their water pipes with lead. Stupidity and cruelty ensued. We put lead in our gasoline and spewed it into the atmosphere. The Boomers got hit with lead poisoning the most. Stupidity and cruelty ensued. You’d think we would have learned the lesson 2000 years ago, but nooooo…

  15. Probably, but people didn’t know it because they didn’t have 24 hour news outlets in those days.

  16. Oh it was, on the plus side the plebs and commoners like us wouldn’t have realized it was happening until we started starving to death.

  17. Unfortunately we don’t still have the coliseum…

  18. No, and it had a significant amount of lead involved.
