  4. I have wanted overdose deaths added to suicide statistics.

  6. 50k out of 100k? Rates above 1, yeah I’m gonna say the numbers are quite off.

  7. The rate increases from 10.2 in 2000 to 14.2 in 2018. About 40% increase in 18 years. That’s crazy. I bet if you drill down in the data there are certain demographics showing most of this increase. Pretty shocking.

  9. Brutal.  Have other western countries followed this same trend?  Any data driven theories on the cause in increase?  What demographic had the biggest increase?  If it s age related, could it have to do with more people entering that age range?

    I’m surprised to see such a huge drop during the pandemic. I associate suicide with loneliness so I would have expected a rise. 

    Edit: more details from the CDC. Age 85+ had the highest rate, which is somewhat comforting. Also, native Alaskans are high, and of course males. I wonder how white men in Alaska compare to the rest of the country. https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/facts/data.html

  12. Incorrect chart labels.

    It’s not “deaths per 100,000” when showing the total deaths. It’s just wrong. Bad data, not beautiful.
