A woman was sexually assaulted on the Tube last month when she was travelling during rush hour.

On November 11, a Tuesday, a woman on the District line noticed a man was staring at her, which made her feel uncomfortable. She had boarded the train at West Ham at 5.27pm.

When the train arrived at Upton park three minutes later, the man sexually assaulted her as she got off the train.

The British Transport Police (BTP) have just released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Detectives would like to speak to the man in the image who they believe may have information that could help their investigation.

“Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 584 of 11 November.

“Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

  2. Horrible for the woman. That’s quite a clear photo so hopefully someone can positively ID the man. 

  4. Horrible that’s it’s happened, but it’s far more common than people (usually men) realise and it’s nice to see it being reported in the news. I was aggressively groped 20 years ago on the met line and tfl staff I told did nothing as ‘nobody saw it and he was gone’. Better that people feel more empowered to report assaults and are listened to.

    However, I am delighted to see this kind of thing being brought to light. I have been sexually harassed & assaulted on the tube so many times, as have my friends and female siblings. Sadly, in my teens and 20’s it was just one of those things that you kind of just accepted as part of commuting. In hindsight, it was terrible, but I don’t feel like anyone/the police would have taken it seriously if I told them about it. I mean, often people witnessed these things and just kept reading their papers.

    Let’s hope by the time our kids are women, there will be zero tolerance for this shit.
